Tuesday painting workshop with Mary Noble return, October 4

Mary Noble's Tuesday painting workshops are returning on October 4, running for eight weeks until November 22. Classes run from 9:30 am to half-past noon. Fees are $20 a day, a total of $160 for eight weeks.

To meet with the demands of students from previous sessions with Mary, asking for acrylic painting sessions, various lessons will be structured for either acrylic or watercolour.

Watercolours with William Band returns March 15

William Band is teaching another round of workshops at Visual Arts Brampton, from March 15 to April 5, 2011. The 4-week-long course costs $100, running Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Three more William Band watercolour workshops this year

With his current workshop ending in a few weeks, William Band has announced three upcoming watercolour workshops, in June, from September through November, and in November. Each will be held on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, at the Visual Arts Brampton Studio, at Highway 10/Hurontario and Steeles Avenue. [Location on Google Maps]

The classes are a friendly, welcoming community of learners, and has returned thanks to popular demand many times over the past year. Artists of any level are encouraged to join these classes, which explore various areas of the medium, primarily with still life and landscapes.

Band will be teaching the following dates:

• 4 week class, June 1, 6, 15, and 22,
• 8 week class, September 14, 21, 28, October 5, 12, 19, 26, and November 2
• 4 week class, November 9, 16, 23, 30.

Band has studied with respected Canadian artists including Alan Collier, Bill Stidworthy, and Franklin Arbuckle. After a successful career in commercial art, he returned to his first love, painting. William's art is based on his travels, from canoeing through northern Ontario lakes, to painting in Scotland.

Besides Visual Arts Brampton, William's workshop schedule includes stops across Ontario, as well as multiple times in Plain Field, Illinois.

VAB remembers watercolourist Jack Reid

With great sadness, Visual Arts Brampton has recently learned of the passing of renowned watercolour artist Jack Reid.

A graphic artist, Jack became a watercolourist; with no formal training. Jack went on to teach workshops for over 11,000 students, worldwide, beginning in 1971.

He won the Canadian government's Commemorative Medal in 1992, exhibited in England with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, and was a life member of the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto and Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour.

Within Brampton, Jack taught Watercolour My Way on Rogers Cable, and was the City of Brampton Arts Person of the Year in 1992. An honourary member of Visual Arts Brampton, in thanks for his recurring help to the group, Jack was the first artist featured at Artway Gallery, in Shoppers World. Moving to Orillia three years ago, he is said to have delved into the arts community there, just as much as he did in Peel.

Beginner's watercolour workshop at VAB Studio

Professional artist Mary Noble will be teaching a beginner's watercolour workshop at the Visual Arts Brampton Creative Studios early next year. The class will run every Thursday for eight weeks, from January 17 to February 21, from 12:30 to 3:00 pm.

Weekly, students will discover how to paint still lifes and landscapes. They will find a greater awareness and understanding of colour and colour theory, while they learn valuable painting techniques like washes.

Whether students have taken art workshops in the past, or this is their first time, they'll benefit for Mary's expertise and enthusiasm.

The class will be capped at seven people, guaranteeing that you'll have plenty of personal attention with Mary. Students should book early to avoid disappointment.

Mary Noble has a Bachelor of the Arts in Art History from University of Toronto, and studied Illustration at Sheridan College. Along with being one of Visual Arts Brampton's most requested instructors, Mary has taught for the Peel Board of Education's evening courses, Brampton Parks and Recreation, and privately.

The eight-week workshop costs $80.
