Daniel Francavilla wins citizenry award

We'd like to congratulate former Visual Arts Brampton youth student Daniel Francavilla for being named one of winners of The Brampton Guardian's 2007 Brampton Junior Citizen of the Year Award. Currently in grade 12, according to the Star, he "has a passion for social justice, carried out through his organization ACCESS Charity, which helps children in the developing world receive an education."

He founded and runs the ACCESS Charity (which is short for "Allowing Children a Chance at Education with School Supplies"); according to their website "formally underway in March 2006, ACCESS has helped many children in at several schools with uniforms, shoes, and supplies." Recently, they built a playground and shelter at a Colombian school. Recently, he wrote an article for the Toronto Star's Global Voices column, on obesity and hunger, and also wrote about teen apathy toward world issues.

Daniel won two bronze medals with VAB, as a student in 2002 and 2003.
